Beekeeping Courses

Course Information:

The aim of the course is to instil each attendee with the knowledge and practical ability to be able to:

  • House and understand a colony
  • Inspect a hive
  • Keep records
  • Understand and prevent swarming
  • Test and control Varroa
  • Understand the honey harvest
  • Overwinter the hive 

Equipment required

Sturdy footwear is essential; walking boots will do, wellington boots are excellent. Long-sleeved shirts and trousers are advisable, but dress for the weather. We will provide all beekeeping suits, gloves, tools and equipment required for the day. Refreshments will be available throughout, but please bring your own packed lunch.

Skills required

An average level of fitness is required. The apiary is accessed via a short, clear, slightly uneven path. Training will alternate between short classroom sessions and practical beekeeping; walking, standing, kneeling and lifting will all be involved. Please contact us directly if you have any concerns.

Inclement Weather

Should the weather look to be sufficiently disruptive to the course we will contact all attendees, cancel/postpone the event and reschedule/refund as appropriate.

Stings

Every effort is made to avoid any bee stings; however, we will be working with live honeybees. If you are aware that you suffer from allergic reactions to bee stings, then this course is not suitable.

Age

Attendees must be aged 16 or over.

Bee
